Dungeons of Euchre
A card-based dungeon-crawler that borrows mechanics from the card game Euchre.
Built with the QX82 library by Bruno Oliveira. Music by Voicer. Submitted for 7DRL 2025.
I recommend jumping into the game directly and playing the tutorial, but if you need help with the mechanics, come back here.
How to Play
Each round, you're dealt a hand of five cards. Use these cards to pass obstacles and find the stairs to the next floor. Play cards of the same suit and higher rank to avoid taking damage. Each floor also has an Aura which determines a trump suit. A trump card will beat any card of another suit.
Card Rankings
- Aces are high
- For the trump suit, the Jack is the highest card
- The Jack of the opposing suit is the second-highest card
For example, if the Aura is Spades, then the highest-ranking cards are:
- Jack of Spades
- Jack of Clubs
- Ace of Spades
- King of Spades
- ...and so on
The Familiar
You have a familiar with its own hand of five cards. If you run out of cards on a floor, you can switch to your familiar's hand in a pinch.
If you think your hand is really good, you can opt to go alone, meaning you discard your familiar's hand. You get a much larger payout for completing the floor by yourself.
Payouts
When you find the stairs to the next floor, you receive a Payout based on how well you played. Here are some things that get you more money:
- Winning five tricks
- Not using your familiar's hand
- Going alone
Some trinkets and rings will give you more ways to increase your Payout.
Items
You can buy trinkets and rings at shops to improve your run. Rings are permanent increases to one of your stats. Trinkets provide various effects:
- New Spells that you can cast
- Enchants that buff the cards in your hand
- New Payout bonuses
- ...and more
